So I’m standing on line at Filene’s Basement, which by the way, is not in a basement. I had to take a ginormous escalator to get up to customer service. So why do they call it a basement? Geography was never my long suit, but doesn’t a basement by its very definition require the escalator to go down? Anyway, I’m standing there waiting to return six of the party dresses I’m not wearing to my cousin’s wedding cuz they’re just too hideous for words – what was I thinking?! - when this oddball guy gets in line behind me. I noticed him right away because he was definitely not playing with a full deck, if you know what I mean. So he starts talking to himself, which is not so weird, really. I do it all the time – not in public, mind you, but still…not such a wacky thing…but then he puts his hands to his mouth and lets out the most bloodcurdling birdcall I’ve ever heard! Now I’m thinking, “That’s weird…” I’m not sure.....
